Lee Kam Wing (李錦榮, b. 1947) — international Seven Star disseminator
On this page
Lee Kam Wing (李錦榮 / Lǐ Jǐnróng, born 1947) is the principal contemporary international disseminator of Seven Star Praying Mantis, founder of the International Seven Star Mantis Lee Kam Wing Martial Art Association with its Hong Kong headquarters and branches across the UK, USA, Germany, Italy, Hungary, France, Australia, and South Africa. A 7th-generation Seven Star inheritor through his master 趙志民 Chiu Chi Man, Lee is the visible face of the Chiu branch of Hong Kong Seven Star and one of the most active mantis teachers in the world.
Training and career
Lee began training Seven Star with Chiu Chi Man in 1962, at age 15 — at the height of Chiu's post-Luo-Guangyu Hong Kong teaching career. He trained intensively under Chiu for ten years before, in 1972, with Chiu's encouragement, opening his own gym in Hong Kong. The association he founded has grown into the largest international network of any single mantis branch teacher.
He has himself published several Seven Star books — most consequentially 《七星螳螂派秘要》 (The Secret of Seven-Star Mantis Style, Hong Kong 1985, ISBN 962828004X) — and (with Leung Ting) the earlier 《李錦榮七星螳螂拳》 (Master Lee Kam Wing's Seven-Star Praying Mantis, 1980). Both circulate in the active international mantis community.
Place in the lineage
升霄道人 (legendary) → 李三剪 → 王雲生 → 范旭東 → 羅光玉 (1888–1944) → 趙志民 Chiu Chi Man → 李錦榮 Lee Kam Wing (b. 1947) → his 8th-generation worldwide disciples
The international network
The International Seven Star Mantis Lee Kam Wing Martial Art Association is one of the few traditional Chinese-martial-arts organizations with a genuinely global multi-country presence. Beyond the Hong Kong headquarters:
United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Hungary, France — established European branches
United States — Wright's Seven Star Kung Fu in the US, and other Lee Kam Wing affiliates
Australia, South Africa — active branches in both
The Greek branch through Antonis Pantelias maintains a substantial Lee Kam Wing video archive on YouTube.
