Holistic dental care is a way of approaching dental care which takes into account how the whole body plays into the well being of your teeth. In this approach to dental care, one would consider not only techniques of dental hygiene, repair, maintenance; but also how factors like diet affect one's dental health.
Holistic dental practitioners generally avoid many of the common dental products such as fluoride and commercial toothpaste. Instead they tend to buy specialized commercial toothpastes with different ingredients, they make toothpaste themselves, or they make/use powder based toothpastes based on baking soda. They also tend to avoid many common dental practices such as root canals and silver amalgam mercury-based fillings.
