First-Hand Rush (善手奔) — Six-Harmony Mantis

Updated 2026-06-08
On this page

善手奔 (Xiānshǒu Bēn, "First-Hand Rush" — written 善 / 先 / 仙 interchangeably) is the second core sequence of Six-Harmony Praying Mantis (張詳三 line). The name is the idea: seize the initiative and rush in. It opens with the cupping-joining hands (捧合手) and the thunderbolt hand (霹靂手), then drills repeated cycles of linked chopping → snapping kick → inner/outer dragging hook (連環劈 → 彈腿 → 裏外拖鈎).

What it trains

  • 先手 (seizing the initiative) — rushing in to strike first

  • 霹靂手 (thunderbolt hand) — the sudden, percussive issuing

  • The 連環劈 → 彈腿 → 拖鈎 cycle — the form's repeating engine

  • Inner and outer dragging hooks (裏外拖鈎) — trapping-and-pulling the limb

Six-Harmony movement names are descriptive and run longer than the tight four-character Seven-Star style.

Place in the curriculum

The 張詳三 Taiwan line teaches its empty-hand art as six core sequences (六趟) — 鐵齒 · 善手奔 · 鏡裡藏花 · 截手圈 · 葉底藏花 · 雙封 — alongside 六合短捶 and 六合拳. This is the second of the six. All six core sequences share the same closing run: 進步跺腳 → 破膝 → 掛耳圈.
